Namibia Team in T20 World Cup 2022
After becoming an associate member of the ICC in 1992, it took Namibia more than a decade to find themselves playing against Test playing nations. That happened at the 2003 World Cup which was held in South Africa where Namibia got to play against multiple top level Test playing nations including the finalists Australia and India. Their performance was encouraging despite facing defeat in all the six encounters that they played. The high of the 2003 World Cup appearance was followed by years of being away from the big stage as they failed to qualify for any of the World Cups that followed.
But late in the 2010s, along with South Africa born Pierre De Bruyn as the coach, the South African all-rounder Albie Morkel became part of the coaching setup and another South African player, David Wiese, switched to playing for Namibia after his career with South Africa got over. The playing standards significantly rose and Namibia managed to qualify for the 2021 T20 World Cup after defeating Oman in the playoffs in 2019. They surpassed expectations at the 2021 T20 World Cup when they defeated Netherlands and Ireland to qualify for the Super 12s. They even managed a win over Scotland in the Super 12s to cap off a memorable first appearance for themselves at the T20 World Cup.
In Australia, they would try to emulate their performance from their previous T20 World Cup and try to sneak into the Super 12s. They have been in good form too and achieved their first win against a full member when they defeated Zimbabwe 3-2 in May 2022. Namibia, however, would start their campaign against Sri Lanka, a team that met them in the first match of the 2021 World Cup too and defeated them emphatically.
On account of qualifying for the Super 12s of the tournament in 2021, they will also be playing in the first stage of the tournament. There they will have to face Sri Lanka as well as UAE apart from another team that will join these three from the Qualifiers stage.
However, India couldn’t repeat those heroics again at the biggest stage and apart from managing a runners-up position in 2014, they have failed to come even close to the coveted T20 World Cup trophy. Under Virat Kohli, India’s performance in the 2021 T20 World Cup proved disappointing for the fans as they got knocked out of the tournament after suffering losses in their first two fixtures of the event.
In the 2022 edition, they will be led by Rohit Sharma who began his tenure as India’s T20I captain with series wins over Sri Lanka and West Indies. In Australia, however, the challenge for his team will be much bigger, and that would make fantasy gaming all the more fun for Indian fans who would be playing on MyCircle11 during the tournament.
India finds itself in Group 2 which also features their arch-rivals Pakistan along with another sub-continental team in the form of Bangladesh. South Africa, the team against whom India drew a recent home series 2-2 will also meet India in this group. Two more teams will join them from the qualifiers.

Team Namibia Captain
Gerhard Erasmus might just be 27 but he has shown incredible maturity in the way he has led the Namibian side over the last few years. He was responsible for the team getting an ODI status after they finished in the top 4 of the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament. Since then he has captained the team in both white ball formats with great maturity. He showed great leadership when he played in the T20 2021 World Cup despite sustaining a finger injury in the first match itself. Erasmus on account of being a part of the Namibian cricket setup for such a long time knows his personnel inside out and has done a good job in getting the trust of the younger players as well as senior colleagues like Craig Williams and David Wiese. After getting a respectable performance out of his team last year, the onus will again be on Erasmus to do an encore in conditions that would be vastly different from the ones they faced in the last year’s World Cup,

Namibia Team S.W.O.T Analysis
Strengths – Namibia has enjoyed a good run of form in the shortest format and have notched up wins against teams that have far more experience than them in general. They would hope that they can make the most of this momentum and not only beat the teams that they have already beaten but also also create an upset. They had put up a good show against Pakistan in the last T20 World Cup.
Weaknesses – The team has relied heavily on few of their star performers like Williams, Erasmus and Smit in the past and too often their performances haven’t been matched by the rest of the teammates. An off day for the stars of the side can mean an off day for the entire team in that case.
Opportunities – The team is made up of many exciting cricketers, both young and old. On the one end of the spectrum, 26-year-old JJ Smit is creating waves with both his batting and left arm pace bowling. On the other end of the spectrum, after his time with South Africa, all-rounder David Wiese is enjoying a revival of sorts and has become the glue that has binded the team and given it much valuable insight into the needs of the game at the highest level. Both of them have a chance to make an impact at the biggest stage and help Namibia do some special things in Australia.
Threats – Like most of the teams that will be trying to proceed to the Super 12s from the, the margins for Namibia will be too small and they would need to pull off an upset to get to the next round in all likelihood.

How to pick a team on My11Circle
When the T20 World Cup gets underway Down Under later this year, you will get the chance to make the most of your knowledge and understanding of the game as multiple matches mean you get to create multiple teams almost every day. So, how to make yourself a winning combination on My11Circle? Here’s how to do it.
Out of the 22 players who are involved in the match, you are supposed to pick 11 players to create your fantasy team. The 11 players should include batsmen, wicketkeeper, bowlers, and all-rounders.
After you have picked the 11 players, you would need to assign captaincy and vice captaincy to two of the players. It’s very important to take this decision with due consideration as the points that they will earn at the end of the match will get multiplied.
But you must pick all those players with just 100 credits in your kitty. All the players are assigned a certain value based on their form and stature, which would often mean that picking 11 of the highest rated players wouldn’t be possible with the budget of 100 credits.
So, use your knowledge of the game – conditions, form of cricketers, their performance against different kinds of oppositions – to predict the 11 top performing players of the match and pick them in your side.
So, what are you waiting for? Begin your preparations for the grand event and download the My11Circle app now to go up against fantasy gamers from around the world during the T20 World Cup 2022!
