Players to watch out for
KL Rahul – The opener has been extremely consistent in the league and has scored 600 runs almost every season in the past few years. The 2023 season though was an outlier and he had to miss out on a number of matches due to an injury. Rahul will once again be expected to score the big runs in TATA IPL 2024 and at a healthier strike rate than before.
Nicholas Pooran – The West Indian batter is one of the most ferocious strikers of the ball currently and did a terrific job last year for the franchise by scoring 358 runs from the middle-order at a strike rate of 172. He will be the key to his team’s chances in death overs and would be asked to take up the finisher’s job on some occasions too.
Shamar Joseph – The West Indian fast bowler made waves with his performance against Australia in the Test series a few months ago. However, he has very little T20 experience and it will be exciting to see if Super Giants take a punt on his pace in the tournament, something they are missing after parting ways with Mark Wood.

Squad Analysis of Lucknow Super Giants
In their two appearances, Lucknow Super Giants have made it to the playoffs twice which tells that while the team’s ability to perform under pressure can be questioned, its general ability as a unit can’t be questioned. The team looks fairly steady and hasn’t made a lot of changes across the three years of their existence, which tells that the management has belief in the resources.
Strengths – The opening combination of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock is a solid one and while Kyle Mayers’ inclusion last season broke the pair, it’s likely to return this year. Moreover, Mayers’ presence means that the team has three batters they can use for the opening slot and can use any two depending on the need of the game.
Weaknesses – With Mark Wood not available, the team’s bowling surely looks a little weak. The likes of Mohsin Khan and Ravi Bishnoi will need to take up a big chunk of responsibility. Besides, Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni couldn’t repeat their 2022 magic last year and that hurt the team a lot. It’s interesting to see whether the team would persist with them if they fail to find form in the early parts of the tournament.

Lucknow Super Giants were one of the two new teams added ahead of the league’s 2022 edition. While they were not able to do what the other new team did, they have put up a good showin both the seasons. The captaincy was given to KL Rahul ahead of their first season and players like Ravi Bishnoi and Marcus Stoinis were roped in before the auction. The team that was assembled at the auction under the watchful guidance of mentor Gautam Gambhir and coach Andy Flower got mixed reactions and the team even began their Indian T20 League campaign with a loss to fellow newbies Gujarat. Post that though, things picked up for the franchise. They made it to the playoffs in the first season itself and did the same next year as well, although in a new jersey and at their home ground in Lucknow.
But in both the seasons, the team couldn’t make it past the Playoffs stage. As a result, Gautam Gambhir moved to Kolkata as their mentor while Justin Langer replaced Andy Flower in the head coach role. Lance Klusener, who coaches the franchise’s Durban team, has also been added to the coaching staff. KL Rahul, however, has retained captaincy and might take up a middle order batting position as he prepares for the T20 World Cup post TATA IPL 2024. Moreover, the team didn’t make many changes to the squad and the addition of West Indian pacer Shamar Joseph was the only notable addition ahead of their 2024 campaign. The team will hope to be third time lucky in TATA IPL 2024 and go beyond the Playoffs stage.
