Rishabh Pant – The wicket-keeper batter will be at the center of all limelight in TATA IPL 2024 since the tournament marks his return to cricket after a tragic accident in December 2022. While the fanfare is overwhelming, from Pant’s personal perspective the tournament is quite important since it would not be easy to return to the same style of cricket that he was famous for after the accident.
Mitchell Marsh – The cricketer has grown tremendously in the last 3 years and is finally showing why everyone rated him so highly at the start of his career. However, he is yet to translate his Australia form to Indian T20 League where his numbers are largely underwhelming. But given the skills that he brings to the table, it’s not hard to see why Delhi continues to persist with him and would hope that he comes good in TATA IPL 2024.
Kuldeep Yadav – Kuldeep Yadav has turned a corner in his career in the last few years and his stint with Delhi has got a lot to do with the transformation. Having an accurate finger spinner in Axar Patel provides Kuldeep the perfect cushion for his attacking wrist spin and considering the form he showed in the Test series against England, it’s likely that he will be the team’s most potent weapon this year.

At this point in the tournament’s history, it seems that the team requires some sort of magic potion to make the title theirs. On several occasions, the team has fielded strong sides but without any success. The team didn’t make a lot of great buys at the auction table before TATA IPL 2024 and as a result, the team on paper doesn’t look much different from the one that finished 9th on the points table last year.
Strengths – The team’s top order packs a punch because of the presence of T20 biggies like Warner, Marsh and Pant. For the team to do well consistently, they would need at least two of these three to have a good season with the bat.
Weaknesses – With Lungi Ngidi injured for the season and Anrich Nortje making a comeback after a long injury layoff, the pace department looks lackluster. The middle order also looks fragile with not a lot of names in the squad being sure shot starters in the Playing XI. That is likely to put a lot of pressure on the top-order and might hamper them from playing as freely as they would like.
South Africa’s Tristan Stubbs has been making a lot of waves in the past couple of years and was the lynchpin in Eastern Cape’s success in South Africa T20 League this year. However, the batter hasn’t looked comfortable in Indian conditions in the limited opportunities he has got in the league. But considering his good form in 2024, he can be the batter that can prove to be Delhi’s X-factor in the middle order. Jake Fraser-Mcgurk of Australia can do that at the top of the order with his explosive batting.

The story of Delhi is one of the most fascinating in the Indian T20 League’s short history. They began as a powerhouse with some of the most explosive seasons and had the smoothest rides to the knockout stages in the first two seasons. However, they failed to make the most of that chance and for a long time struggled to finish in the top four. From 2014 to 2018, they couldn’t go beyond the sixth position, finishing with the wooden spoon twice in that period. A change in ownership in 2018 not only brought a new name for the team but also brought a change in the team’s fortunes. Since their rebranding, the team has made it to the playoffs three consecutive times and even went a step closer to the trophy in 2020. However, the trophy has still proved elusive and they will begin TATA IPL 2024 this year once again in search of their first ever title.
The team looked a different unit post the 2022 mega auction and couldn’t make it to the playoffs for the first time since 2019. Worse was to follow as captain Rishabh Pant met an unfortunate accident in December last year that ruled him out of the tournament. Although David Warner took over the captaincy, the team’s only consolation was finishing above the wooden spoon holder Hyderabad on the points table in 2023. In 2024, the team’s captain Rishabh Pant will return to cricketing action in the TATA IPL 2024 and it would be nothing short of a fairytale if he can script a maiden title win for Delhi on his comeback. The team will be playing their first couple of home matches in Visakhapatnam and the rest in Delhi.
