Squad Analysis of Bangalore

Bangalore finished the last Indian T20 League third but had their hiccups throughout the tournament. On many occasions, it was Dinesh Karthik’s finishing that saved them. With the ball, Wanindu Hasaranga had a huge responsibility and he delivered on most occasions by taking 26 wickets. The team didn’t go for a lot of purchases on the auction table but added two Englishmen to their setup in the form of Will Jacks and Reece Topley. Unfortunately, Jacks got injured right before the league and will be unavailable for Bangalore.

Strengths – The batting lineup stlll looks impressive and Glenn Maxwell, who is recovering from injury, would need to replicate his last year’s form this year too. The lower order was crucial to Bangalore’s success last year and they found a star in Rajat Patidar. However, it would put too much pressure on the lower order if the top-order fails to fire repeatedly as it happened last year.

Weaknesses This will be the first time this bowling lineup will bowl at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, a daunting task for any bowling attack. Considering how well Yuzvendra Chahal did at the same ground year after year for Bangalore, Wanindu Hasaranga will know he has big shoes to fill this year in Bangalore colors. But the small boundaries of the ground could neutralize the threat of his variations.

At the top, both Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis are slightly similar as batters who like to take some time before accelerating. That can hurt Bangalore in case their lower middle order doesn’t deliver on the promise it packs. The inclusion of Jacks in the XI could have really helped the team, but an injury to him means that Bangalore will have to look for other options and hope that Maxwell has recovered fully.

For the 16th time in the Indian T20 League, Bangalore will start with the hope of winning their first ever title. The team that finished third last year will hope that 2023 is their year finally. A major change took place last year for Bangalore when South Africa’s Faf Du Plessis came out for the toss as captain instead of Virat Kohli. Du Plessis led well but the title still eluded them despite the team finding many positives in their campaign.

But finding positives shouldn’t be the only goal of the franchise this year and giving the fans the title that they have been waiting for so long should be Bangalore’s number 1 priority this year. Traditionally, the team hasn’t been a pushover and has made it to the finals of the tournament multiple times since their first final appearance in 2009. However, that has only added to the frustration of the fans who now have accumulated enough heartbreaks in these years and would like the team to get over the line for once. The team has big stars in the form of Virat Kohli, Faf Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell but it’s the bowling where the team has grown considerably by adding Wanindu Hasaranga and finding Harshal Patel in his peak. The addition of the tall left-arm quick from England, Reece Topley, will further strengthen the bowling attack.
As always, Virat Kohli’s form will remain the main talking point in the team’s campaign and the master batter would hope for a better campaign than last year where he only managed two half-centuries. The fans however will be mighty pleased to see him come back to form in the recent months where he has brought up five centuries in multiple formats.
