Players to watch out for
After failing in the first two games, Sai Sudharshan responded with an unbeaten half-century in the last match against Salem. We also saw how sensibly he batted for Gujarat in the Indian T20 League.
Although Shahrukh Khan hasn’t delivered with the willow till now, he has been amongst the wickets. In fact, he is the second-leading wicket-taker (6) this season. It is just a matter of time before he starts launching them big, deep into the stands.
J Suresh Kumar walked away with the Player of the Match award for scoring 64 off 43 balls against Salem. In 3 innings, he has added 147 runs at 49.
Despite Trichy’s loss to Chepauk, Ajay Krishna’s three-wicket haul helped fantasy players nudge ahead. Top-order batters Kaushik Gandhi, Sasidev and N Jagadeesan all fell prey to him.
On the batting front, Santosh Shiv stepped up for Trichy with a breezy innings of 59, including 8 sixes and 2 fours at a strike rate of 155. He is expected to continue opening the batting.
By picking three wickets each against Salem, Abhishek Tanwar and Balu Surya helped Kovai register their first win of the tournament. While Tanwar was slightly expensive, Surya also gave bonus points for his economical spell.
M Poiyamozhi was taken to the cleaners in the last game, but he has been amongst the wickets in every game this season.
Match Preview
There isn’t much to separate the two teams. Both have won only one match out of three, owing to which they are placed in the lower half of the points table. Trichy and Kovai will lock horns for the first time in the tournament.
